The Science Behind a Clean Up
Just like a Spring Clean Up helps to prevent the development of fungus and disease at the beginning of the year, a Fall Clean Up is important as a way of creating a healthy hibernation for your yard during the cold months, so to speak.
.
Although the season is at its end, removing all debris, waste and dead plants prepares your soil, grass and landscape beds for the next growing season.

Fall Checklist
Lawn Care
Once a Fall Clean Up is performed, you will be ready to move on to other essential lawn maintenance tasks. Alpha Lawns is a full-service lawn maintenance company and can assist you with a full spectrum of seasonal services.
.
It’s important to continue with your lawn care regimen during the fall season. Mowing should continue until all grass has stopped growing. If leaf debris is minor, mowing can be a sufficient way to “mulch” the leaves into your yard, creating a rich soil compost. If leaf debris is excessive, a second Fall Clean Up may be required. Remember: it’s vital to keep your lawn clear of debris and waste throughout the season.
.
If you have questions about your lawn care schedule during this time, contact our staff. We can discuss your property’s unique needs and adjust your mowing schedule if needed. In most cases, a lawn care routine will continue as normal through the season.
.
Fertilization
The next “Fall Checklist” item is fertilization. Before the season ends, it’s important to perform a final fertilization treatment. Fall is the most important time to fertilize cool-season grasses, such as Kentucky Bluegrass. It’s a great time to treat warm-season grasses as well! Contact us for more information about your lawn’s fertilization requirements.
.
Hedge Trimming
As the weather cools, hedges and flowering bushes (such as roses) will be ready for a fall trim. A final hedge trimming will remove any dead limbs, re-shape the plant, and ensure optimal bush growth. Our maintenance experts are trained in trimming, pruning, and shaping and will perform the service skillfully and efficiently.
.
Mulch
Protect your perennials, bushes, and ornamental grasses with a 2-3 inch thick layer of mulch in the fall. As it decomposes, it produces a rich compost that will aid in successful spring growth.
